St. Petersburg teenager Cole Eicher made quite an impression on Cubs manager Joe Maddon at the Feb. 1 Children’s Dream Fund luncheon in Tampa.

So Maddon’s Respect 90 Foundation arranged for Eicher and his parents to fly out to the Cubs spring camp in Arizona last week to take part in the team’s annual head-shaving event to benefit pediatric cancer causes.

Eicher, a brain cancer survivor, had the spotlight, shaving Maddon’s head and speaking to the crowd of about 1,500 that had gathered.

Plus, the 16-year-old Calvary Christian student attended two games, went to dinner with Maddon (the former Rays manager), met the Cubs players and did an inning with their radio announcers.

Overall the event, with a $10,000 contribution from new Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish, raised $93,000 for the cause.
