Respect 90 launches Read 15, a reading program for all ages, and Rawlings provides a unique incentive for participants.
TAMPA, FL— Respect 90, the charitable foundation of Los Angeles Angels Manager Joe Maddon and his wife, Jaye, has launched Read 15, a reading program that encourages participants of all ages to read at least 15 minutes per day. The program begins immediately to coincide with National Reading Month.
“I am all for doing whatever we can to encourage reading for young and old, even if it is just 15 minutes a day,” said Maddon. “Reading has always put my mind in a better place. It leads to a clearer, more creative vision. Reading impacts the mind the same way weights improve your body. It permits you to escape within your thoughts and imagination, to visit places you’ve ever been.”
Those who register at Respect90.org/Read15 and complete five books through the remainder of 2021, will receive a unique prize, courtesy of Rawlings, the official supplier of baseballs to the major leagues. Made specifically for Respect 90, Rawlings has produced bookmarks made from the same leather as its official baseballs. The bookmarks will be mailed free of charge to those qualifying readers. In addition, anyone making a $50 donation to Respect 90 will receive a bookmark signed by Maddon.
“For me, it really started with my Uncle Chuck,” continued Maddon. “He encouraged me to read when I was a minor league player and spending a lot of time on long bus rides to the games. His direction led me to read James Michener’s Centennial which offers a great interaction of fact and fiction. That book opened doors for me within my mind to the point where certain principles from that book are a part of my method today.”
The Respect 90 Foundation seeks to provide children and families opportunities to develop championship attitudes through sports, academics and community involvement in the places where Joe and his wife, Jaye, call home: Tampa, FL, Long Beach, CA and Joe’s hometown of Hazleton, PA.
