You’ve seen David Ross run around on a baseball field and you’ve seen him bust some moves on Dancing with the Stars. Now Friday you can see him do his best Tom Cruise in Cocktail act.
The longtime catcher is among several MLB folks who will be celebrity bartenders Friday at former Tampa Bay Rays and current Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon’s annual Thanksmas fundraising dinner at the neighboring Ava and 717 South restaurants in south Tampa.
Also signed up to mix drinks are Rays stars Chris Archer and Kevin Kiermaier, longtime Blue Jays and now free agent slugger Jose Bautista, Cubs OF Kyle Schwarber, A’s OF Matt Joyce and new Twins bench coach Derek Shelton, the former Rays hitting coach.
The Thankmas event runs from 5-11 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting Maddon’s Respect 90 Foundation, with a focus on helping children and families. Admission is $40 a person, and it’s $75 for the full-course spaghetti dinner that Maddon served last month at four homeless shelters in the Tampa Bay area. Call (813) 512-3030 for reservations.
